Christmas Gin

Here's a run down of my favourite 2017 Christmas Gins and what to make with them. What more could you need to see you through the upcoming manic season of excessive socialising, gift wrapping and entertaining?

Edinburgh Christmas Gin
70cl 43% £36.17

Flavored with Frankincense and Myrrh- Delicious sweet orange notes that they say works best in a Negroni.

I'd turn this into a Christmas winner with a touch of Cava...The perfect welcome drink designed to give a festive feel whilst offering that classic digestive taste.

Edinburgh Christmas Sparkle
 20ml Campari
20ml Martini Rosso
30ml Edinburgh Christmas Gin
50ml Frexinet Cava

Build in a wine glass with cubed ice and top with Cava.
Garnish with a large grapefruit peel and a cinnamon stick.

A gin made by infusing Christmas Puddings!
Now this is a bit special, something a little out of the ordinary that can be a real conversation starter. It's great in punches or as an alternative in a mulled recipe.

Mulled Puddgin & Tonic
Heat in a large saucepan or soup kettle

2ltr Cloudy Apple Juice ( I suggest Eager Juices)
50ml Rowse Honey
450ml Sacred Christmas Pudding Gin
4 Cinnamon Sticks
10 Star Anise
10 cloves
5 green cardamom pods
4 strips of orange peel
2 bottles of Fever Tree Indian Tonic
100ml Water
Serve in a copper mug or a teacup with a slice of apple and star anise garnish.

Heat this gently and the spices will infuse quickly. Its a beautiful alternative to mulled wine or cider and is guaranteed to keep your friends and family warm this winter.

This Swiss Gin is created with smoked stone salt and cold smoked Chestnuts (It wouldn't be Christmas without a Chestnut!)

Would you believe these guys have created a Yuletide Gin with Frankincense, Myrrh, Gingerbread, Nutmeg, Clove, Christmas Tree Needles and real Gold!

Father Christmas himself would be proud of just how many seasonal elements they've managed to pack into this gin.. so my choice of drink to compliment the elements of the spirit is to make a citrus Collins with a hint of sweet Gingerbread.

Yuletide Collins

50ml Yuletide Gin
25ml Lemon Juice
10ml Gingerbread Syrup
150ml Soda

Shake it all up and top with soda
Serve in a tall sling/ Collins glass

Made with organic Juniper and Coriander alongside foraged botanicals from Macclesfield including Gorse Flowers, Wild Bilberries, Raspberries and Local Moss. Forest Gin has some incredible reviews and it's not hard to see why.

15ml Vanilla Syrup
25ml Freshly squeezed Lemon Juice

Quince is such an incredible flavour to pair with gin. Its got wonderful tannic properties as well as bold sweetness and fragrance. This Gin would also be incredible as an alternative to port when eating cheese.

Quince & Co

125ml Luscombe's Grapefruit Tonic
50ml Whitley Neill Quince Gin
2 halved Kumquats
2 Slices of dehydrated Grapefruit
5 Juniper Berries

Plonk all of this into a large balloon glass with cubed ice, the Gin has great viscosity and sits well with a large quantity of mixer and more pronounced flavours such as grapefruit

The guys and girls at Skin have adorned their Christmas edition this year with a beautiful baby blue and holly leaf number. It would look fantastic on any back bar or on the shelf at home. It also happens to be really delicious with big notes of Coriander, Juniper and Citrus.
